I Was Not Introduced To This Show Until My Late 20's - Long After It's Original Airing, But I Might As Well Have Grown Up On It!! My Good Friend, Matthew, Introduced Me To It - Insisting I WOULD Get Instantly Hooked! He Was Right!!! I've Been Hooked Ever Since! I Like ALL The Characters And The Show Couldn't Function Without Them All. But My Two Favorites Were The Ones Who Became It's Biggest Stars - Mr. Humphries (John Inman) And Mrs. Slocombe (Molly Sugden) - ESPECIALLY Mrs. Slocombe! She Was HYSTERICALLY Funny And What A Strong Character!!! The Comic Writing Was Risque And BRILLIANT! Its Humor Was Both Very British And Yet Very UNtypical Of British Comedy.This Show Was VERY Bold And Racey And Held Nothing Back! It Was WAY Ahead Of Its Time!!)

I Was Hired By Disney On The Spot My First Week Here After Moving To Southern California, And The Rest, As They Say, Was History! I Got My Very First Experience Of DisneyLAND (As Opposed To Disney WORLD) As An Employed Cast Member! I Would Spend Four Wonderful Years With Disney!! I Was Chosen To Be Up For The Role Of The Walk-Around Peter Pan (But They DecidedTo Continue To Not Have One At The Time), I Worked Splash Mountain, ALL Attractions In Fantasyland And Mickey's Toon Town, The World-Famous Jungle Cruise, The Tiki Room, And Many Of The Parades, Fire Works Shows, And "Fantasmic"!! FREAKLING BROS.
(The History:
    These Are The Guys I Once Worked With In Las Vegas!! They Run A Chain Of Las Vegas' Most Successful Seasonal Haunted Houses! I Was One Of The First Cast Members Of "The Dungeon" - Which Has Since Been Retired! I Was A Character I Called "The Stair Master". I was The First Scare Inside The Place! At First, Due To My Job At The Time (Managing A Halloween Shop - Go Figure), I Could Not Make The Audition With My Then Roommate / Still-Friend And I Was Heartbroken. I Called And Called Ang Begged Them To Make Arrangements To Still Audition Me, But It Just Wasn't Being Done. My Roommate Had Landed A Role, And I Went To The Opening Night To Be Supportive Of My Him.  As Fate Would Have It, The Person Who Had Gotten The Role Of The First Scare Did Not Show Up And Never DID Turn Up To My Knowledge - Ever!  They Needed Someone FAST! Surprisingly, They Came To Me And Asked If I Could Fill In! As If I Would Say, "No!" I Recognize When "Fate Steps In"!! I Got Literally Rushed To The Back Trailer, Was Thrown A  Long, Tattered White Shirt Full Of Cob Webs And Stage Blood, A Long, Gray Wig, And A Skeleton Face Mask. I Was Placed Underneath A Set Of Stairs Just Inside Next To A Standing Suit Of Armor And What Looked Like A Closed In Wall. There Was a Mirror Above The Staircase That Made It Looked Like It was A Long Flight Of Stairs That Actually Went Somewhere! My Compartment Was Much Like The Munsters' Staircase That Opened Whenever Spot, Their Pet Dragon Had Something To "Say"! I Was Hidden Underneath In A Dark, Closed-In Space With Just A Stool Where I Would Sit And Watch For "Victims" Through A Small Hole In The Staircase - Just Big Enough For One Eye That No One Else Out In The Room Could See. I Was To Wait Until The First Person First Put Their Foot On The First Step. Then I Was To Open The Staircase And Screech Or Scream Or Something, And Stand Up. Then I Was To Pull The Cord Next To My Stool That Pulled Open The Wall Next To The Stairs And Make Sure That Everyone Went Through The Opening.
    Well, When The First Victims Came Through, Something Came Out Of Me And To This Day, I Don't Know Where! As The Victims Were About To Make Their Way Up The Stairs, I Opened Them, Instinctively, Gymnastically JUMPED OUT Of The Staircase In One Leap, Let Out A Loud Screeching Laugh, Chased The People Around The Room, THEN Reached In And Pulled The Cord That Opened The Wall, And Chased Them Halfway Down The Hall - Shouting Completely Improvised Evil Puns After Them In A Shrill, Raspy Voice That Sure Wasn't MINE!! When I Jumped Back Into My Area And Shut The Stairs Again, I Noticed I Could Hear Those Same Victims Getting Close To Just Behind The Wall Behind Me. I Grabbed A Mini Step Ladder That Was Down There, Carefully Peeked Over, And Noticed That I Could SEE Them Too! One Referred To The Another By Name. I Just Could NOT Resist, And, In A Completely Different, Deep Voice, I Addressed That Person By Name And Said That I Was "Coming For Them". FREAKED THEM OUT!! (They Could Not See Me, Thoug I Could See Them!) I Kept This Up All Night! Very Little Of It Was What I Was Actually SUPPOSED To Do! The Bosses Were Convinced That Fate Really HAD Intervened And That They Had Made The Right Choice By Throwing ME In There!! After That First Night, I Opted Not To Wear The Mask Anymore And Came Up With My Own Special Effects Skeleton Make-Up - Which Worked MUCH Better For Me!
    I Kept My Routine Up (My Background In Gymnastics Came In VERY Handy!). Oftentimes, I Would Scare A Lot Of People Right Back Out The Entrance And Many Of Them Would NOT Come Back In!! But That Didn't Matter Because They Had Already Paid! The Bosses Saw It As Testimony...And So Did I! The Excitioner Who Worked The Crowds Outside And Led The Victims In And I Worked Our Own Little Tradition! He Would Listen For Anyone Addressing Another Member Of Their Party By Name, Then Secretly Come In And Tell Me That / Those Name(s), And I Would Use It / Them On The Unsuspecting Party. They Would Not KNOW HOW I Knew Their Names, Which Really Added To Their Freak-Outs! The Cast And Crew Were Even Invited To Dinner By Famous Magicians Penn And Teller Because We Had Really Scared And Impressed Them When They Went Through! The Following Year - Though Extremely Busy With Work, My Stage Theater Troupe And My Radio Show Cast I Had Gotten Off The Ground By That Point, The District Social / Support Groups I Was Running, And Charity Events I Organized And Ran, I Reprised My Role Again As Long As I Could! There Were Times I LITERALLY Ran Myself Into Exhaustion That Second Year! But I Had The GREATEST Time!! It Was To All Be A Precursor For What I Do On The Side NOW With Tourists On Hollywood Blvd, And Led Me To Discover That I Really DO Have A Knack FOr Special Effects Make-Up And Costuming!

I Also Want Both The Black And Blue Versions Of "The Pirate Shirt" And The "Swashbuckler" Shirt - As Well As The Black LEATHER Versions Of Them!
 
    I Also Have An Infinity To Many Of The Black And Cobolt Blue Suit Ensembles, Sports Coats, Slacks, Shirts, (ESPECIALLY Velvet, Silk, Or Satin Or Similiar Shirts) The Black Dress Shoes, Some Sandals, And I LOVE Many Of The Sharp, Black Leather Pants And Trenchcoats - As Well As A Few Of The Shorter Leather Jackets.

I Always Made A Point To Give My Guests A Very Fun Experience By Sticking To The Traditional Jokes - Putting New Twists On Some Of Them And Adding A Number Of My Own Tasteful New Jokes! I Poked Fun At Everything From Snow White (In The Area Where The Elephants Bathe, I Pointed Out To Guests That This Was A Fantastic Photo Opportunity! I Encouraged Them To Get Their Film Developed At Our Photo Shop On Main Stret - Assuring Them That "Someday Their Prints Would Come"!) To Britney "Spears" (I Had Everyone Duck As We Passed The Natives With Spears In Their Hands - Making Whoosing Arrow Sound Effects Into The Mike As I, Too, Ducked. After We Passed, I Stood BackUp, Asked If Everyone Was Okay. I Then Asked If Anyone Had Gotten Hit By One Of The Spears, And If So, Please Raise Their Hands. At Least One Person Always Did. I Then Asked, "Was Her Name 'Britany'?!" I Would Then Shake My Head And Say, "Oops! She Did It Again! (This Is A Disneyland Fantasyland Attraction Which I Worked And, During My Years With Disneyland, Became One Of The Best Loved Cast Members To Ever Work This Attraction! I Went Out Of My Way To Get On The Mike And Entertain The Waiting Guests By Playing Up The Movie, Asking Disney Trivia Questions, Tell Tasteful Disney Jokes, Goofed Off To The Guests During Break-Down Times, And Played Off Of Captain Hook Whenever I Saw Him Nearby - Getting All The Kids To Call Him A Codfish! He Would Come Over, Get In Line, And Play Off Me, Too! Of Course, I Did This For ALL Disneyland Attractions I Worked, But This Being My Traditional Favorite, And Peter Being My Favorite Character (Who I Actually Almost BECAME There), I Was In My RAREST Form HERE! Even When I Was Just Working The Attraction, Many Guests, Due To My Appearance, Voice, And Spirit, Assumed I WAS Peter Pan And Thought It Was A Great Gimmick To Have Me Actually Working The Attraction!
    Many Frequent Annual Passport Holders Would Come To These Attractions Just To Get My "Unique Experience", Which Really Honored Me. A Cast Member Who Had Been There Since Walt's Days And Knew Him Personally, Once Told Me That, If Walt Was Still Around, Or If I Had Been Around Back Then, I Definately Would Have Been One Of His Favorites. He Said Walt Would Have Probably Singled Me Out And Given Me A Career In His Films And Television Shows! What A Great Honor It Was To Hear THAT!)

THE TIKI ROOM:
(The History:
I feel strongly compelled to share my hilarious Tiki Room scare! One of the days I was scheduled to open the Tiki Room, I was doing the usual morning routine. I checked at the Jungle Cruise station for the check-off sheet (on which I was supposed to check off that everything was in place and working properly), but it was not ready yet. So, I went back to the Tiki Room to run the show to make sure everything WAS working properly before opening it for the day for the guests. When you work the Tiki Room, you work it by yourself...one Cast Member per shift. I walked around the room watching all the birds and the tiki's do their thing. As always, I was fascinated by everything. I loved getting the chance to experience the show by myself. Some would find it creepy, but not me. I watch it and imagine what it must have been like for the Cast Members and guests experiencing it back when it was brand new. I enjoy putting myself back in time and into the minds of those lucky people....that makes me enjoy it even more.
     So there I was, mezmorized and very wrapped up in my own little world watching the show when it got to the point where the lights went completely out and the thunder and lightning commences. A SECOND before that instant, I was completely alone in the room. It is not a room anyone can easily get into when the show is running. There were no guests outside yet. The park wasn't open yet. Then the room goes completely dark. Then, in the flashes of lightning, I see the shadow of the figure of a person coming right for me - arms outstretched - just a few feet from me! My heart fell right into my shoe, and I must have jumped nearly right into the ceiling! For those several seconds, I could have sworn it was a ghost of some former Cast Member or former guest that I had somehow summoned up because my mind had been so deeply in the past at the moment!
    When the thunder and lightning stopped and the lights came back, it turned out to be one of the Jungle Cruise ladies come to give me the check off sheet!! She had slipped in from the back all-too-quietly at precisely the WRONG few seconds! During the moment, when I thought that lady was a ghost, I was convinced it wasn't coming up to me to "socialize"...or to "PRETEND to terrorize"! It was doing a pretty good job of the actual act! She found me backed into a wall, looking absolutely horrified!! (Ironically, I am FASCINATED by true ghost stories and had twice tried to put together a ghost hunting group, but couldn't properly promote it in the local magazines. As long as there is ONE other person with me, I have not an OUNCE of fear at all! But if something were to happen when by myself, I would be just as terrified as the next person!
     Anyway, still looking somewhat horrified, I let out a sigh of relief and started laughing. I told her what her "appearance" had just done to me, and shecracked up, too. It became a true story that other Tiki and Jungle Cruise Cast Members loved to pass around....especially ME!)
